Colchitas...Colcheras...Colchas...all things quilts

Or pretty little blankets. Colcha is the Spanish word for blanket or coverlet. It's the closest word for quilt and the one I have most commonly heard. A colchita is a blanket or a little quilt. A colchera is a quilter.

Catching up

I was reminded this weekend that I have a blog and I have not updated it. Not in quite a while. I always use the excuse of "I'm too busy" but I know that every blogger is very busy. Probably 10 times busier than me. But here I am and will do my best to catch up.

I have done some sewing lately. I took a break for a few weeks and focused on knitting. I'm not sure why but I just needed to. Inspiration has come back with a flourish and I'm sewing and quilting up a storm. Sometimes absence does make the heart grow fonder I suppose.

I finally started quilting this fun and colorful top. It's not done yet but I think two more session will do it for me.

No Sid, please lay there.
And I did make a dress! I made the Staple Dress by April Rhodes. Dear Katie gave me the fabric in destash/cleaning fit (yay for me!) and I whipped up this dress. I made the XL and can happily report it's too big. I'll be making the large soon.

Amy Butler fabric makes pretty Staple dress.

Enjoy your week and stay productive!

Finished Sunrise Baby Quilt

Sunrise Baby quilt, finally done. And at the shop.
This little beauty is finished and displayed at Cottonwood. It was super fun and easy and I highly recommend it. In fact, three other ladies at the shop are working on their own now, in very different color palettes. So fun to see the same pattern look so, so different.

Sorry for the time away. Life has been very busy. We do have the new class schedule through June for Cottonwood. I'll be teaching lots of classes this summer- lots of quilting classes, my wonky star pillow case, some machine applique, the beloved half square triangle sampler, and a fun Amy Butler Gypsy bag. I look forward to telling you all about them.

Sunrise Baby Quilt-a-long progressing

I'm doing the We All Sew Sunrise Baby Quilt. This is a beautiful little quilt. I chose to do colors just like the sample quilt but using batiks. I think I will have to try it with another color scheme too.

How to cut those long lines? Took me a while to figure out.
The initial cutting and piecing is super duper easy.  The hardest part was figuring out how to measure the long lines to cut. I didn't have a table or ruler big enough. Finally I pinned it to the wall and found my longest measuring tape and drew the lines on. Then choppity chop time.
Ahhh- lines cut.
And reassembled. Looking good. Still super easy.

Once it was trimmed up it got pinned and basted and ready to quilt.  I also used the original quilting pattern  and it's lovely.  Sid checking it out as usual.
Sid says "get quilting!"
"Yes, yes, those look like straight lines to me."
I got the quilting done and am finishing up the binding. Finished picture to be posted soon.
